Name: Edythe Mae Schure, 89

On February 23, 2010 Edythe Mae Schure (89) widow of Louis N. Schure passed away at the Barrett House in Markesan, WI after a lengthy battle with myleodysplastic leukemia.

Born on December 13, 1920 to Louis and Lydia (Schulz) Mohr she always called the Markesan area home. With an older brother Carl and a younger brother Ralph she helped on the family farm located on the south west edge of Markesan.

Baptized and Confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan she remained a lifetime member and was a constant advocate and participant of it teachings, including being a member of the Ladies Aide Society. Meeting the love of her life while both were attendants in a wedding, she married Louis Schure on October 25, 1941 at St. John's. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Susan and Marlene.

She attended Markesan Schools which was only a stones throw away from her childhood home and graduated with the class of 1939. Her life long love of music was enjoyed while playing the flute in the high school band and singing in the choir. After retirement she enjoyed singing in the local women's group, Lake Aires, that appeared at many area events.

Louis and Edythe farmed the Schure Homestead on Schure Road in the Town of Mackford until retirement in 1975 when they built a home on Hwy 44 near Little Green. Louis preceded her in death in July 1986. Edythe remained at their home until September 2008 when she broke her hip and was unable to return home. She had a short stay at the Markesan Resident Home and then went to live at Samuel's Grove and the Barrett House whre she enjoyed her last year. Those that have taken care of Edythe during her illnesses are very much angels here on earth and their dedication is very much treasured by her family.

Edythe loved gardening and preserved foods for her family's table and later shared the fruits of her labor with others and also took great pride in her flower beds. Her talents of sewing, crafting and making dozens of hand stitched quilts created lasting treasures for her children and grandchildren. She spent many years as general leader of the River Valley 4-H Club and was a member of Rural Community Homemakers Club. Louis and Edythe enjoyed Saturday night dances and playing cards with the anniversary club. After Louis's death she remained active playing cards in many groups and attending local AARP and Manchester senior citizens groups.

Leaving to rejoice in her life here on earth are her daughters and their families: Susan and James Prochnow of Markesan, and Marlene Kammann of Cleveland, WI; grandchildren: Amy (DuWayne) Badtke of Ripon and their children Ethan and Isabelle; Jason (Hope) Prochnow of Markesan and their children Anna and Natalie; Douglas (Cheryl) Kammann of Cottage Grove and their children Erin, Kade, and Aiden; and Anthony Kammann of Green Bay. Nieces and nephews and friends remain to share the good memories of Edythe's life. Along with her husband, parents, and brothers Edythe was precede in death by her son-in-law, Melvin Kammann.

Services for Edythe will be at 11:30AM on Friday, February 26, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan, with Rev. Jason Jobs officiating. Friends and family may visit at the Church from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will be to follow at the Markesan Memorial Cemetery which was once land that was owned by her family.

A memorial fund for St. John's Lutheran Church and the Cancer Society has been established.
